Blogging

Sorry about the lack of blogging lately. But being a graduate student coupled with trying to fully recover from a flu virus has left me severely lacking in the energy department. Just getting through the day has proven to be a monumental effort.

Yes, I did get my flu shot this fall. But somehow, I managed quite nicely to get a flu strain for which I was not inoculated.

So, my readers, please do not give up on my blog. Posts will be coming shortly...

Friday Cat Blogging

A Cat's Prayer

Although I am too proud to beg,

and may appear to be a very independent creature,

I ask for your loving care and attention.

I rely on you for my well being much more than you may realize.

This I promise you, my benefactor, that I will not be a burden on you

nor will I demand more of you than you care to give.

I will be a quiet peaceful island of serenity for you to gaze upon;

a soft soothing body to caress,

and I shall purr with pleasure to rest your weary ears.

Since I am a gourmet who appreciates different taste sensations,

I pray you will give me a variety of nutritious foods and fresh water daily.

You know dear friend, how I love to go.

Allow me, I pray, a warm sheltered place

where I can rest peacefully and feel secure.

If I am wounded in battle or suffering from disease,

please tend me gently, and see that I am treated

by loving and competent hands.

Please protect me from the inhuman humans

who would hurt and torture me for their own amusement.

I am accustomed to your gentle touch and am not always suspicious

nor swift enough to avoid such malicious acts.

In my later years when my senses fail me

and my infirmities become too great to bear,

allow me the comfort and dignity that I desire for my closing days

and help me gently in my pain or passing.

Hear this prayer, my dear friend, my fate depends on you.

Chinese New Year

It is the Chinese New Year. Happy New Year everyone!

I found this nice link over at Cranky Epistles.

According to the Chinese zodiac, I am a goat. Here is the description:

Personality
Occupying the 8th position in the Chinese Zodiac, the Goat (or Sheep) symbolizes such character traits as creativity, intelligence, dependability, and calmness. Comfortable being alone to ponder the workings of their inner minds, Goats enjoy being part of a group, but prefer the sidelines rather than the center. Their nurturing personality makes Goats excellent care-givers. They’re quite and reserved because they spend much time absorbed in their thoughts.

Home and alone is where Goats feel most comfortable. There they can express themselves artistically, whether it’s by painting, cooking or participating in whatever artistic endeavors they enjoy. Goats prefer the couch because there they can relax and explore their minds. They don’t need elaborate furnishings; only items reflecting their desire for art.

When traveling or seeking entertainment, Goats prefer groups or venues that hold many people. Goats spend money on fashions that give them a first class appearance. Although Goats enjoy spending money on the finer things in life, they are not snobbish.

Health
Perhaps because Goats are basically serene, they tend to have fewer health problems. Their fragile exterior hides the fact they’re typically very healthy. When they’re happy, they’re healthy. When Goats become unhappy, especially as a result of romance, they quickly become sick.

Relationships
Goats tend to be private, so it can take effort to get to know one. The Goat is the one who will decide when and with whom it will share its personal life. As a result, most Goats have few “close” friends, yet they’ll work hard for those they love.

Career
Goats at work prefer being part of a flock. Power and status aren’t important. Goats will only assume leadership roles when asked directly. They’ll never volunteer. Good career choices for Goats include: florist, interior designer, daycare teacher, pediatrician, actor, editor, hair stylist, illustrator, musician, and art history teacher

You can also add elements to your zodiac. It turns out I am a Fire Goat:

Fire Goat:
Not nearly as sensitive as other Goats, Fire Goats don’t need the approval of others. Fire Goats always put themselves ahead of others. They’re social creatures who typically will have a close-knit circle of family and friends.

The Leading Role

WtC has a post about what actor/actress you would have play you in a role. So, I think I will play along.

A computer program once analyzed my facial features and told me that the celebrity I resemble the most is Eva Gardner. I do see some features in common. Mostly the deep set eyes I think. But hey, if a computer program tells me I look like the sexy siren I am not going to argue.

However, a blogger told me that he thought I resembled more a young Gracie Allen. I am inclined to agree. I think I have a stronger resemblence to Gracie Allen.

However, the problem with Eva Gardner and Gracie Allen is that they are no longer alive. So, I need to pick someone who is still alive.

When I started graduate school, one of my classmates (now my best friend), told me that I resembled Helen Hunt.

I saw Helen Hunt in "As Good as It Gets" and I enjoyed the movie as well as her role. Give her hair a bob and some loose curls, tint her hair red, give her blue contacts for her eyes, and she is set for the role.

There you have it!

Suits my mood...

What military aircraft are you?

F/A-22 Raptor

You are an F/A-22. You are technologically inclined, and though you've never been tested in combat, your very name is feared. You like noise, but prefer not to pollute any more than you have to. And you can move with the best.
