I can very much relate to this. This is so my life. I present to my advisor the draft of my grant on Monday which I submit to AHA on January 10. I am so very much dreading the revisions.

The clever trick is, of course, to keep duplicate, parallel copies of one's work. Then, when the switcheroo is pulled, the work's been done. Of course, this does increase your work load. But it works for papers, too, if you can anticipate the expected demands.

So true. However, sometimes it can be rather difficult to anticipate the expected demands.
